The Port Gibson Main Street program has announced that the 18th Annual Port Gibson Heritage Festival will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2010. This is the major fundraising event for this tax-exempt, volunteer-based organization whose primary goal is to assist in the revitalization of the historic downtown business and residential district.
The event planning committee has been working since last September to insure a successful, family oriented event. A whole day of fun activities are planned beginning with the 5K Dilla Dash, a MS Track Club Grand Prix Event, at 8 a.m. from the Water Department on the south end of Market Street. Starting shortly thereafter will be arts and crafts vendors, food court vendors and demonstrating artisans in the downtown area. The Children’s Park, which will be located in the700 block of Market Street, includes an entertainment stage featuring the Little Miss Heritage Festival Pageant. Various rides, activities and animals will be available throughout the day for the children’s enjoyment. The Music Stage will be located in front of the Matt Ross Administration Building and this year will feature a variety of blues artists including Homemade Jam, Ms. Jody and Floyd Taylor.
Major Sponsors that have already committed to support this year’s Festival are Entergy, Ameristar Casino (Vicksburg), the City of Port Gibson, the Claiborne County Board of Supervisors, the Mississippi Arts Commission and AT&T.
Board President Sharon Harvey said “our local Main Street organization is proud of the work we do to enhance downtown Port Gibson but everything comes at a price, both the physical improvements and the fun activities. The funds raised through the Heritage Festival helps to support our ongoing projects.”
Volunteers, both individuals and groups, are needed in all areas. Please call the Main Street office, 601-437-4500, to obtain applications for any event or to sign up to volunteer your time.
