A new feature has been added to the 18th Annual Port Gibson Heritage Festival which will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2010. The Festival Planning Committee is pleased to announce that a regional High School Step Show competition has been added to the full list of activities for the day.
Event Coordinator Cassandra Buck has been actively involved in other Step Show programs over the past several years and knows that it will be a fun activity that everyone will enjoy as well as getting teens involved in the Heritage Festival. She stated “we are excited to introduce this event to the lineup of activities and plan to have a dozen or so Step groups compete on the Main Stage beginning at 11:00 a.m. The students who participate in Step Shows have worked hard to become a fine-tuned group with their music and costumes and are very enjoyable to watch.”
The application fee for groups to participate is $30.00. Prizes will be $300 for first place, $150.00 for second place and $75.00 for third place and trophies will be presented to each winner.
The Little Miss Heritage Festival Pageant will be held a second year after its success in 2009. Applicants must be between the ages of 5 to 10 years and will be asked to do an oral presentation on their own family heritage (not to exceed two minutes), perform a talent of her choosing and model a pageant dress.
Vanessa Shaifer, one of the coordinators for this event, stated ”the girls who competed last year had a great time and we’re hoping to have even more contestants this year for the first place prize of a $500.00 savings bond”. Entry fee is $25.00 and due by March 12th. The contest will begin at 10 a.m. and be held on the Children’s Stage.
